The area between Museum Ludwig and Wallfraf-Richartz is beeing transformed into a new museum mile, called via culturalis. It will change traffic from beeing open for cars to pedestrians only. To signal this change, the Quartermarket was transformed from a parking lot into a sitting area – being slightly remote from the crowded shopping streets, the place lends itself to staying for a short while.
We were asked to arrange and apply a painted pattern, to create a recognizable sitting area. Simple triangle shapes were easy to apply, yet coherent enough to shape a painted “rug”. Two concrete twig-shaped seating elements were integrated into the design. The final design blended nicely with the surrounding architecture and the three plane trees and their shade.
